Activities in the centre of Pau
If you only have a few days in Pau you may want to stick to the city centre for your visits and activities. And you do well because there is plenty to see and do all in walking distance from the Hotel De Gramont. Here is our selection :
The HENRI IV castle and its national museum
150 meters from the hotel, you arrive in the courtyard of the Castle, the gardens below, the viewpoint on the hills of Béarn and in the distance on the peaks of the Pyrenees will amaze you. Open all year, except January 1st, May 1st and December 25th.
Bernadotte Museum
190 meters from the Hotel De Gramont, this typical Béarnaise House of the seventeenth century was the birth palce of the lieutenant of Napoleon who went on to become King of Sweden, ancestor of the ruling royal family of Sweden.
The Boulevard des Pyrénées
200 meters from the hotel The Boulevard des Pyrénées is one of the most beautiful urban walkways in France. Stroll from bar to bar, enjoy the restaurants and terraces, they all offer panoramic views of the mountains.
The free and clasic Funicular
800 meters from the Hotel De Gramont, the funicular of Pau, put into service in 1908, connects the station with the Boulevard des Pyrénées at the Place Royale. The length of the track is about one hundred meters, with a slope of 30%. The current cabins date from 1961; they were renovated at the end of 2006.
Museum of Fine Arts
100 meters from the Hotel is the Museum of Fine Arts of Pau. Free admission every first Sunday every month.
The Beaumont Palace - Historic Congress Center
1200 meters from the Hotel is the Palais Beaumont - Historic Congress Center (former winter palace created in 1900) and its Casino.
